Scriptural Reference:
“The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9 NIV Application: Did you ever want to get somewhere exciting fast, but you had to wait for someone? Maybe you were on a tour, or on the way to a movie. But for some reason, someone was a bit tardy and you had to wait. Christians happily anticipate the day the Lord returns. All wrongs will be made right, and eternal bliss awaits all who are deemed righteous by God. But we have to wait. Maybe its because God wants all those persons who want to be deemed righteous to get their acts together. Maybe, just maybe, one of those persons was once you. Prayer: Dear God, I thank You that You waited for me.

Scriptural Reference:
“We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.” 2 Corinthians 4:8-10 (NIV) Application: Are you struggling through hardships? Do you find yourself unable to catch your breath before something breaks, someone attacks you, a loved one hits bottom, money runs out, health collapses, or you just feel rotten and depressed? At times everyone feels crushed. There’s a way to survive. Take out your rusted anchor. It’s rusty because it has been used many times, plunged into dark, murky waters, and thrown out when the seas are choppiest. It’s tried and tested. Don’t let it get weakened by drugs, booze, sex, rage, or self-destruction. Like an anchor in a ship, it must reside within you. That anchor has a name: Jesus. No matter where you are in your faith, you should depend on Him. But as with any journey, it’s best to get that anchor ready before the storms hit you. Do it by meditating on Jesus when the waters are calm. Don’t let anything separate you from your anchor. Know that Jesus is with you, watching you, pulling for you. Hold on to your anchor. Eventually, that anchor will become you. Prayer: Dear God, I pray that I will remember to trust in Jesus when times are tough. I pray that when I am calm, I will focus on You, read the bible, and pray to You just as I would talk to a loving friend. Thank You for sending Your Son Jesus to be my anchor. I have faith to know that no matter what challenges hit me, I will be able to use Jesus as my anchor to hold me steady. I also pray that throughout my life, I will help others hold on tight to their own anchors. Thanks, and Amen. Scriptural reference: "But the righteousness that is by faith says: “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’ ” (that is, to bring Christ down) “or ‘Who will descend into the deep?’ ” (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim: If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:6-9 (NIV) Application: God accepts us when we accept Him. His hand is extended to us. We need not make this overly complicated. We can’t do what Jesus already has done. That would either bring Him down to our level or exalt ourselves as His equal. Either way, it wouldn't work. It's based on the false belief that we can make ourselves worthy of God's grace. That reduces the power of Jesus’ blood, which was shed to save us. Our mission is simple: say Jesus is Lord, and believe He lives! Prayer:
Dear God, please help me stop doubting Your love and what You've done to save me. I believe Jesus is Your Son and my Lord, that He died for my sins, and that He arose from the dead. Jesus lives. Thank You for the gift of salvation, something I couldn’t earn on my own. Because of Your love for me, I will live forever with Your peace and love. Amen. |
