Scripture: “Abner conferred with the elders of Israel and said, ‘For some time you have wanted to make David your king. Now do it! For the Lord promised David, ‘By my servant David I will rescue my people Israel from the hand of the Philistines and from the hand of all their enemies.’ ”2 Samuel 3:17,18 (NIV) Application: When we as Christians decided to follow Jesus and forsake all others, we made the best decision of all. But what about our daily lives? We should strive to be decisive. This isn’t the same as being foolhardy, but to take action after studying an issue for a reasonable amount of time. Not too long….just reasonable. Like Abner in the 2 Samuel 3, we have to be able to say, “Now do it!” to anyone (especially ourselves) and get on with it. Prayer: Dear Lord, I want to be decisive; to let my yes be yes and no be no. Help me live the life of certainty, even in this uncertain world. Amen. Scripture: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV) Application: How often we seek something that we can find within ourselves. If we keep Christ in our hearts, and meditate on Him, we have peace. Prayer: In times of trouble, dear Jesus, center my thoughts on You. Amen. Scripture:
“Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, the wife of his son Abram, and together they set out from Ur of the Chaldeans to go to Canaan. But when they came to Harran, they settled there. Terah lived 205 years, and he died in Harran.” Genesis 11:31-32 (NIV) Application: Ask people who Terah was, and most will not know. But his son Abraham is perhaps the best known person in all of global history. If Terah had not quit the journey to Canaan, he might have been the person through whom God blesses the nations. The best journeys happen when we set a distant goal, and take steady steps toward it every day. And don’t quit. Ever. Prayer: Father, thank You for giving each of us a unique destiny. Please guide and encourage us every day to reach it. Amen. |
