Scripture: "But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. ... But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come." John 16:7,13 (NIV) Application: "Doing what is right in the eyes of the Lord" ( 2 Kings 22:2, etc.) would be difficult without one essential component: the Holy Spirit, Whom Jesus promised us in John 16:7. Since we have the Holy Spirit, we can navigate this complicated world using the Holy Spirit's two-sided sword of conviction and encouragement. But He "guides" us, not drags us. To do what's right in God's eyes, we have to follow His Spirit, and that's completely up to us. John 16:13 assures us that the Holy Spirit guides not out of self-interest, but unbiased Holiness. That's something that no earthly leader can do 100% of the time. Prayer: Thank You for giving us the Holy Spirit freely, Jesus. Now, encourage us to follow Him all the day long. Amen.
