A 2015 study by Brunel University, London looked at 555 Facebook users and concluded:
• Conscientious people are more likely to update about their kids • Extroverts use Facebook to connect with others and post about their social activities • Openness is associated with intellectual posts • The lower someone’s self-esteem, the more likely they are to update about their romantic partner • Narcissists are motivated by a need for validation, and most frequently post about their achievements, diet, and gym sessions. Call it whatever you want, it’s bragging. Globally, bragging is at an all-time high, and much of it is because social media, like Facebook, make it easier to brag to a wider audience than ever before. But we’re bragging about the wrong thing! If we really want something worth bragging about, we should brag about our #1 “Friend”: the Lord. Scriptural Reference: “This is what the Lord says: ‘The wise must not brag about their wisdom. The strong men must not brag about their strength. The rich must not brag about their money. But if someone wants to brag, then let them brag about this: Let them brag that they learned to know me. Let them brag that they understand that I am the Lord, that I am kind and fair, and that I do good things on earth. I love this kind of bragging.’ This message is from the Lord.” Jeremiah 9:23, 24 (ERV) Application: It’s okay to be happy about accomplishments. But let’s not gloat to the whole world about them. Check your social profile. Does it brag about God as much as it brags about yourself?
