Scriptural Reference: “Then Joseph died, and all his brothers—that whole generation. But the children of Israel kept on reproducing. They were very prolific—a population explosion in their own right—and the land was filled with them. A new king came to power in Egypt who didn’t know Joseph. He spoke to his people in alarm, ‘There are way too many of these Israelites for us to handle. We’ve got to do something: Let’s devise a plan to contain them, lest if there’s a war they should join our enemies, or just walk off and leave us.’” Exodus 1:6-10 (NIV) “Then those who feared the LORD spoke with each other, and the LORD listened to what they said. In his presence, a scroll of remembrance was written to record the names of those who feared him and always thought about the honor of his name.” Malachi 3:16 (NLT) “Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.” Luke 10:20 (KJV) Application: No matter how great you are in your company, country, or community, chances are you won’t be remembered even as few as a couple of generations from now. Don’t feel bad; even people who have saved mighty empires have gone unremembered. Consider Joseph, who saved Egypt from famine. Despite the fact that Joseph’s family lineage was long and wide, the Egyptian leadership forgot about Joseph and persecuted his descendants. But take heart: God’s book of life has your name in it, and it’ll never be erased. Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, if we receive accolades in life, we celebrate, but we don’t count on them to last. We honor You God, and You will honor us forever.
