Scriptural reference:
“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise— in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me? "In God, whose word I praise, in the LORD, whose word I praise— in God I trust and am not afraid. What can man do to me?” Psalm 56:3-4, 10-11 (NIV) Application: Psalm 56 is a self-directed pep talk. I imagine the psalmist lying in bed trying to sleep. But thoughts of enemies' schemes, gossip, lies—and maybe debt, defeat, and legal decisions—all crowd the sleepless writer's mind. I've been there, and most likely you have, too. At such times, we need constant reminders of Who really counts in our lives. Problems fight their way to the forefront of our thoughts. But we need to keep fighting back with prayer, repeating the same affirmation of our faith in God, just as the psalmist does. With God helping us, what can mere people do to us? Prayer: Dear God, I'm calling on You, again and again. Comfort my mind, body, and soul, especially when people are against me. I plant my faith deep in You, not them. Thank You.
