Scripture: "But our High Priest offered himself to God as a single sacrifice for sins, good for all time. Then he sat down in the place of honor at God’s right hand." Hebrews 10:12 NLT Application: Some Christians live in dread that their lives, health, or happiness will be taken by God so that more people will be persuaded to come to the Lord. That's wrong. First, not one of us is pure enough to be a sacrifice worthy to take on the sins of others. We simply don't have anything that can be an exchange for another person's salvation. Second, and most important, Jesus has already done that work. His single sacrifice remains good for all times for all people. Once and for all. It's dangerous arrogance to think that we can be a supplemental sacrifice. Now, what we can do--and this is perfectly and completely a matter of our own choice whether we'll do it--is to tell people about the Gospel. We can inform others of the work Jesus already completed for their souls. We should live lives that reflect our gratitude so that others can see Him and His work within us. We voluntarily sacrifice only ourselves, and no one else, to God alone. Although He hears our intercessory prayers for others, He doesn't require or accept unworthy exchanges of lives, health, or happiness. Prayer: Father, wherever we've lived in secret fear that You may bring harm to us in order to bring others to You, eradicate that fear completely. Amen. Comments are closed.
