Scripture:
“It is too small a thing for you to be my servant to restore the tribes of Jacob and bring back those of Israel I have kept. I will also make you a light for the Gentiles, that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.” Isaiah 49:6 (NIV) Application: Anyone who doubts the necessity of studying the Old Testament should read Isaiah. The Old Testament gives the history of God’s chosen people…the offspring of Abraham and Sarah. Gentiles are those who were not God’s initially chosen people (called Jews). That makes most of us Gentiles. We’re all searchers, and God made it easy to see where to go. The Bible tells us that God made the Jews a light for the whole world to watch. That doesn’t make Jews better than anyone. It simply means God chose them as a people the whole world needs to focus upon to learn about God Himself. We should watch how the Jews followed God, doubted God, fell away from God, were disciplined for their sins, and were invited back to God many, many times. Some repented, and some never came to their senses. That’s our story too, isn’t it? Avoid making the same mistakes. Read the Old Testament and the New Testament. Watch the light. Prayer: Thank You Father, for expanding Your salvation beyond just Your originally chosen people. You lit a path for me. Now, please make it easier for me to stay on it.
