Scripture: 'The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for false evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death. But they did not find any, though many false witnesses came forward. Finally two came forward and declared, “This fellow said, ‘I am able to destroy the temple of God and rebuild it in three days.’ ” ' Matthew 26:59-61 NIV The next day, the one after Preparation Day, the chief priests and the Pharisees went to Pilate. “Sir,” they said, “we remember that while he was still alive that deceiver said, ‘After three days I will rise again.’ Matthew 27:62-63 NIV Application: Insurrection or Resurrection. Which is it? False preachers, prophets, politicians, and liars always find a way to twist the Bible to suit their immediate needs. In one breath they will declare that spoken words should condemn an innocent person to death, and in the next they'll claim that those same words promise life. They know the difference, but they refuse to follow truth. A punishment will certainly come to those who twist God's Word. We have a personal responsibility to investigate God's Word ourselves. When we don't understand what we're reading, we should seek accurate and God-centered interpretation when need it. But pray that the "wolves in sheep's clothing" don't sway us to follow them for their own purposes. One thing is certain: No matter how God's Word is twisted, the true Word will come into reality. When that comes, we must pray that we are on the right side of interpretation. Prayer: Father, as others try to twist Your Word to suit their own needs, direct us toward correct interpretation. Amen.
