Scripture: “Answer me, Lord, answer me, so these people will know that you, Lord, are God, and that you are turning their hearts back again.” Then the fire of the Lord fell and burned up the sacrifice, the wood, the stones and the soil, and also licked up the water in the trench. When all the people saw this, they fell prostrate and cried, “The Lord—he is God! The Lord—he is God!”” 1 Kings 18:37-39 (NIV) Application: So much talk and concern goes on toward how God “hardens” hearts (e.g., Ex. 9:12), but not enough talk goes to how God “softens” hearts. In both cases, God doesn’t force anyone to go this way or that. God provides avenues for them to choose. God provides more opportunity to follow the flesh to people who have willingly given themselves over to the flesh. But likewise, God gives more opportunity to follow the Spirit to those who willingly give themselves to the Holy Spirit. Willingly. Either way, people will see ways to either develop a closer relationship with God, or reject God and go to Satan. But it’s a willing turning, either way. Prayer: Father God, please open the eyes of those who are confused, and continue to provide spiritual ways for people to know and accept You. Amen. Comments are closed.
