Scripture: “With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be.” James 3:9-10 (NIV) Application: We all do it. Fess up. We praise God in one moment and barely rise from our knees before we're fighting with another child of God. What can we do? Quickly-QUICKLY—admit our wrongs. Not just to God, but first to the victim of our tongue lashing. (Matthew 5:23,24) Yes, they probably had it coming, but that's not the point, is it? The Holy Spirit convicted you, didn't He? Don't let the argument fester, potentially ruining something bigger. Reverse the tongue: "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said that." "Dear God, help me now." Use that same tongue to apologize to the other person and pray to God for help. Tongues can be tied for taming, too! Prayer: Dear God, I thank You for convicting me of the sins that come from my mouth. I really need Your help in doing better, apologizing quicker, and behaving more like the Christian You want me to be. Thank You for another chance...I don't take it for granted. Amen.
