" And God sent an angel to destroy Jerusalem. But as the angel was doing so, the Lord saw it and relented concerning the disaster and said to the angel who was destroying the people, “Enough! Withdraw your hand...” 1 Chronicles 21:15 NIV Application: There is good discussion to be had whether it was God Who put it in David's heart to number the Israelites or was it Satan. The beauty of comparing two accounts of the same events from two perspectives is that it shows a common thread throughout the Bible. It was Satan's urging that brought David to sin. Consider Job. Satan couldn't do anything to him without God's permission (Job 1:12). Consider Judas. The same thing (Luke 22:3,4). What about David? Ditto. And us? Yes, it applies. There's a common denominator: Anytime there is a sin, going back to the original sin of Adam and Eve (Genesis 3:6), Satan stirs up some kind of inherent drive in humans to challenge God's sovereignty. Prayer: Whatever it is in us that causes us to rebel against You, please take it out. Make us realize that the drive to achieve is in us only because of Your grace, but it always should remain subject to You. Amen. Comments are closed.
