Scripture: "I feared the anger and wrath of the Lord , for he was angry enough with you to destroy you. But again the Lord listened to me. And the Lord was angry enough with Aaron to destroy him, but at that time I prayed for Aaron too." Deuteronomy 9:19-20 NIV Application: Imagine a terrible teenager going to court to divorce her parents. "What's the reason?" the judge might ask. "They're fickle," she says, "always changing their minds. See, I'm a horrible murderer, drug pusher, prostitute, and liar, and I know I deserve the worst punishment possible. They say they're gonna put me out of the house, and they have every right to do it. But when I beg them to forgive me, guess what? They forgive me! How can I live with them?" That's twisted, stupid logic, isn't it? By the same token, some people say that if God never changes, why are there so many events in the Bible showing Him not following through in things He says He'll do? Look deeper. God never once changed His announced actions except to withhold punishment that was deserved. When someone interceded, He had mercy. Does that make God bad? Having mercy on us is not a contradiction of God. It's the definition of God. Prayer: Father, we pray that we will fully appreciate what Your mercy on us means. Amen. Comments are closed.
