Scripture: For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. 1 Corinthians 2:2 NIV Application: Those born with very little in terms of personal family, social, or group history may be better prepared to accept Jesus, and only Jesus, as their salvation. They come to Jesus without the baggage the Lord requires all of us to abandon at the church door. That baggage is called heritage. Heritage may be a handicap. It creates a feeling of superiority to others. It diminishes one's feeling of needing Christ. Indeed, heritage may be the highest hurdle to clear in the journey to accept Jesus. But the dangers of heritage may be overcome with sincere prayer, positive attitude, and daily action (or, put otherwise, "interaction"). As scripture teaches, to be saved, heritage has to be counted as worthless. It's a good devaluation, however. Because in exchange, one gains membership in the everlasting, magnificent kingdom of God alongside other believers of all walks of life. That's what God wants. That's the Christian heritage. That's the only heritage that counts. Prayer: Help me shed all feelings of heritage entitlement and superiority, Lord Jesus, and to accept all others as equals in Your kingdom. Amen.
