Scriptural Reference:
“Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!” Psalm 34:8 (NLT) Application: There’s a story of how an old minister had to explain why he believed in Christ. His audience was a group of doctoral students, PhDs, seminarians, evangelicals, and world-recognized scholars from academia. These were “apologists,” all geared up to challenge the academically-uneducated old man to come up with a convincing argument of God’s existence. Everyone expected the old minister would be verbally scourged by the audience of experts. The old minister sat and calmly took an apple out of his worn paper lunch bag. He took a bite of it. The audience waited. He took another bite. They waited, moved to the edge of their seats. The old man finished the apple, tidied up his bag, stretched, and rose to leave. The audience of apologists grumbled and laughed. One of them asked, “Aren’t you going to advance your best argument?” “I just did,” the old minister said. The audience was baffled. He laughed. “I tasted and saw that the Lord is good. Why don’t you do the same?” We can’t convince anyone to believe in God. We can happily introduce them to Him, but they have to come to Him just as we did: On their own. Prayer: Father, give us the right approach to show each person we meet how glorious it is to know You. Amen.
