Scripture: After the reading from the Law and the Prophets, the leaders of the synagogue sent word to them, saying, “Brothers, if you have a word of exhortation for the people, please speak.” ... “Fellow children of Abraham and you God-fearing Gentiles, it is to us that this message of salvation has been sent. Acts 13:15, 26 NIV Application: There are times when it's helpful to share our personal testimony regarding our own sinful lifestyle before being saved. But that's not always the case. Sometimes we have to give our own story the backseat. There's a great example in scripture. Even though Apostle Paul often told how he was an enemy of Christ and persecutor of the budding church, he sometimes told the history of God's plan of salvation without mentioning his own conversion story to his audience. And his story, of course, is breathtaking. But it wasn't always in the best interest to share it. We can learn from this in our own ministry. We tailor the story of God's wide offer of salvation to the people He wants us to reach. We don't draw unnecessary attention to ourselves. We let God's story take center stage so that people can apply it to their own lives. Through this, we minimize the likelihood of putting off some people. There will be plenty of time to counsel others, if needed, with our personal stories. But until we receive confirmation from the Holy Spirit, it's best to let the Bible speak for itself. Prayer: Inspire us to speak Your Word the right Way, at the right time, and to the right audience, all according to Your will, dear Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen. Comments are closed.
