Scripture:
“let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth." Gen. 11:4. Application: “Scattered abroad.” Fear of isolation drives mankind. Fear of being disconnected makes us reach for the smartphone 150 times a day. Why this fear? Some blame capitalism and its power of marketing. But the truth is beyond any economic, political, or cultural structure. It's human nature. Our connective technology is a pocket-sized Tower of Babel. What’s the #1 app on these phones? Facebook, where everyone creates their own name, image, and face. It’s time to resist and control technology instead of allowing technology to control us. Pause. Pull back. Pray. Pause again. Prayer: Dear Father, I see how mankind hasn’t really changed. Please help me remember that I need not fear being occasionally disconnected. I want to always feel the comfort of being under only Your sovereign rule. Amen.
