“For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.” 2 Timothy 4:3 Application: No matter the era, people have sought spiritual leaders who would tell them what they wanted to hear. Even in the Old Testament, priests and prophets were bought and sought under the guise of having them deliver the Word of God, but in reality, they were expected to prophecy what the hearer wanted to hear. (Judges 17:10-13; 1 Kings 22:8 (NIV). These days, with instant access to our preacher-of-choice, it’s even easier. Prayer: Dear Lord, I pray that I’ll not seek what I want to hear, but what You want me to hear. Amen.
