Scriptural Reference: “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.” 1 Corinthians 13:4 Application: Most of the world is right handed, they say. But if we look at our hands while praying, the left hand is side-by-side, pointing in the same direction—upward—as our right hands. Our left hands usually aren't the first to reach for anything. It supports the right, sitting and waiting until called upon. It never complains. Even if our right hands are physically stronger than our left hands, the left springs into action without a thought to take control. Scarily, at any moment, we could use our right hands to destroy our left hands. That would be a temporary victory of my right over my left hand. But who would I be hurting? Myself. Our spouses are our other hand. Left or right, they are us. There is no victory in hurting a part of yourself. Marriage is a union of two; they are no longer one. The next time we are tempted to put down our spouses, look at both hands, put them together, and pray. Prayer: Father, thank you for our spouses. Direct us in ways to be their support. That glorifies You. Amen.
