Scripture:
“I thank my God every time I remember you.” Philippians 1:3 (NIV) Application: Is there any more touching opening to a letter than to say, “I thank my God every time I remember you”? When the Apostle Paul wrote those words from Roman imprisonment, he knew that his time on earth was limited, but he treasured the relationship that he had cultivated with the Philippian church. Relationships are like that. We all probably have heard that “people come into our lives for a reason, a season, or a lifetime.” Paul moved on, not according to his design, but he eventually realized that “what has happened to [him] has actually served to advance the gospel” (Phil. 1:12). His Philippian friends were in his life for a reason and a season. By the same token, he left them for a reason (and for a season). It really helps for us to realize that people will not always be with us on earth. But while they are, let them know that we thank God for them. Prayer: Dear Father, You’ve blessed our lives with so many wonderful people. Some have moved on to other pursuits, and we pray that You will bless them immeasurably. We pray for those who will come into our lives, too. In all things, whether coming or going, You are our constant Guide and Loving God. Amen.
