Scripture: “Then the master called the servant in. ‘You wicked servant,’ he said, ‘I canceled all that debt of yours because you begged me to. Shouldn’t you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?’ Matthew 18:32-33 NIV Application: When we are in trouble, we don't hesitate to call on the Lord for rescue. Reflecting on our lives, we can all say that God has rescued us. Maybe not in the way we wanted, but certainly in the way we needed. And most of us who love the Lord are thankful. But do we put our thankfulness in action? We all fail in at least two ways: ° First, we forget that we ever were in peril. We to don't stop and reflect that, if it weren't for the Lord, we'd still be in big trouble. ° Second, we don't "act out" our gratitude on others. God gives us opportunities to be the ones who deliver His answers to the prayers of others. He, in a sense, appoints us as His "deputy" rescuers. Imagine that! God not only delivers us from trouble, He elevates us. But in our forgetfulness, we think His delivery and elevation are special rewards for us alone. That's not the case. Yes, we are to savour and celebrate His blessings through remembrance and praise, but we are also supposed to (a) spread His love by helping others who are in need, and (b) forgive others who have hurt or are indebted to us. These are ways to thank God for His rescue. We're not blessing horders, we're blessed Christians. Prayer: We're sorry for our past failures. Open our eyes to the greater meaning of Your mercy upon us, and gently remind us that it's time to put our gratitude into action. Amen. Comments are closed.
