Scripture: The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9 NIV Application: Patience doesn't develop by just holding our tongues when we see someone else messing up. That's restraint. Patience is when we place ourselves in the position of the other person. That's compassion. Compassion grows patience. No one is more compassionate than our Lord. Look at how often we messed up and deserved severe punishment, yet He withheld it. That isn't just restraint, it's Divine patience, because He wants us to do better. But there's even more. He literally put Himself in our position by taking the punishment that we deserved upon Himself. That's beyond both restraint and patience. That's called sacrifice. Prayer: Lord and Savior Jesus, help us remember Your sacrifices for us whenever we are tempted to be impatient with others. Amen. Comments are closed.
