"It is the blessing of the Lord that makes rich, And He adds no sorrow to it." Proverbs 10:22 NASB "Do not rob the poor because he is poor, Or crush the afflicted at the gate" Proverbs 22:22 NASB Application: The Bible is the strongest advocate of the poor in the entire history of the world: º "The rich and the poor have a common bond, The Lord is the maker of them all."( Proverbs 22:2) º "He who is generous will be blessed, For he gives some of his food to the poor." (22:9) º "He who oppresses the poor to make more for himself, or who gives to the rich, will only come to poverty." (22:16) º "Do not rob the poor because he is poor, Or crush the afflicted at the gate" (22:22) Clearly, it's wrong to look down on anyone, or any group, because they are poor. But this goes further. Do we exploit their poverty by keeping them in debt? That's a sin. Do we support other people, businesses, or governmental laws or regs that don't give the poor dignity or a "leg up?" That's deserving of self-examination. We can change our own business practices, but what do we do with the harder question? Vote? Boycott? Write leaders? Consider these, because Proverbs 10:22 tells us all wealth is from God, not ourselves. That's true even if it appears that our own hard work made it happen. Be mindful that others have worked harder, yet have less. Prayer: Direct me on how I can help the poor, Father God. Amen. Comments are closed.
