Scripture: “That’s what your fathers did when I sent them from Kadesh-barnea to see the land ... The Lord’s anger burned against Israel, and He made them wander in the wilderness 40 years until the whole generation that had done what was evil in the Lord’s sight was gone.” Numbers 32:8, 13 (HCSB) Application: When the 40 years of penalty were almost behind them, God's chosen people nearly repeated the mistakes that got them into trouble the first time. But Moses remembered history and worked out a solution. In our own lives, we see and hear opportunities that look appealing. But do we risk making a mistake we made before? We should cheerfully forge ahead to new challenges and opportunities, but at the same time: *Be alert. *Remember the lessons and penalties of past mistakes. *Pray for discernment. *Be excited about the new vistas ahead! Prayer: Dear God, we are so thrilled with the opportunities You give us each day to do something new, but give us warning signs when we risk repeating old mistakes. Amen.
