Does your Bible get as much time as your cable news channel?
“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!” Matthew 6:21-23 NIV “At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.” Matthew 24:10-13 NIV Application: If we fill our eyes and ears with reports of scandal and division, guess what our hearts and minds will generate? Fear and hatred. If we study scripture—the Word of God—guess where our hearts and minds will go? To places of love, forgiveness, compassion, and Godliness. When we study the Bible, the world itself may not get better, but we will be God’s lovely beacons of light for a lost world. We should challenge ourselves to give at least as much time per day studying scripture as we study cable, print, and network news. Try it, and life will be better. Prayer: Dear God, whenever we see or hear reports of hatred and exploitation, direct us to Your Word so that we can make things better, not worse. Amen. Comments are closed.
