Scripture: "But anyone who needs wisdom should ask God, whose very nature is to give to everyone without a second thought, without keeping score. Wisdom will certainly be given to those who ask."James 1:5 CEB Application: Wisdom is like aged wine, cheese---or people: it gets better with time. But wisdom can be given immediately to anyone by God, as it says in James 1:5. The question is whether they accept it (James 1:6-8). Consider James. Jesus was James' older brother. Jesus had been around James probably all of James' life. But did James accept Jesus as the Messiah? No, not right away. Did James have access to every validation of Jesus as Messiah that the twelve disciples had when they dropped their trades and followed Jesus? He probably had even more. But James resisted Jesus as Lord. He probably was outside the place where Jesus taught when this is recorded: "[Jesus'] mother and brothers arrived. They stood outside and sent word to him, calling for him. A crowd was seated around him, and those sent to him said, “Look, your mother, brothers, and sisters are outside looking for you.” He replied, “Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?” (Mark 3:31-34) So wisdom is always available, but do we take advantage of it? Ask yourself. Prayer: Jesus, we ask for wisdom. You’ll give it. Now, direct us to use it. Amen.
