Scripture: 'All the people crossed over the Jordan and the king crossed too...and all the people of Judah and also half the people of Israel accompanied the king. But the men of Israel answered the men of Judah and said, “We have ten parts in the king, therefore we also have more claim on David than you. Why then did you treat us with contempt? Was it not our advice first to bring back our king?” Yet the words of the men of Judah were harsher than the words of the men of Israel.' 2 Samuel 19:39-40,43 Application: There are shades of the Lord Jesus arriving in Jerusalem here, with people lining the streets, as with Palm Sunday, welcoming the coming King. David was the king then, and Jesus later. But there are also shades of sectarianism here. Some people claimed they were "closer" to King David than others, even to the point of harsh slandering. Much the same is apparent even now, with some Christian denominations slandering others over ceremony and sacraments. Needless! Prayer: Enlighten us so that we can be peaceful and supportive of our fellow Christians, King Jesus. Amen. Comments are closed.
