Scripture:
“And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.” Matthew 6:13 (NIV) “If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.”Genesis 4:7 (NIV) Application: Two takeaways from scripture: First, we can rule over sin. That's told us by Genesis 4:7. But we can't rule over sin unless we call on God to deliver us from sin's power. That's the second takeaway, and it comes from Matt 6:13. It's like the leader of a country or major business. She or he may have the gifts to rule, but without calling on a staff or administration to do the heavy-lifting, nothing will work. This isn't saying that God "works for" us (we serve God), but it is saying that we have no power to overcome the temptation of sin without calling for God to deliver us. It begins with a choice we have to make, and God won’t make the choice for us. Do we choose to call on God to deliver us from the power of sin? That choice is ours. Prayer: I choose to call on You, Father, to have me rule over sin. Please deliver me to victory! Amen.
