Scripture: "But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect." 1 Peter 3:15 NIV Application: "How are you emotionally coping?" Those words are seldom asked in times of crisis. Everyone is more focused on works of the flesh, e.g. taking credit or issuing blame. But a gentle, soul-probing, open-ended question may be exactly the opening needed to give most people their biggest help. We Christians need to be oases of calm now, when church is seen more as a place to get infected than affected. Offer a short prayer. Times like these, people don't resist unless we arrogantly condemn whole groups of people. Don't. By now, we should be displaying our own calm, with concern and sympathy toward all others. We will be asked how can we have hope and calmness at a time like this? Be ready to answer. Prayer: Give us the right words and deeds to offer this fearful and antagonistic world, Lord. Amen.
