Scripture: "Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, And whoever is intoxicated by it is not wise." Proverbs 20:1 NASB Application: Drinking is a hot button issue with Christians, and always has been (remember what they said about Jesus in Matt 11:19?). We have to come to our individual conclusions about this**, with the Holy Spirit's conviction, but consider these possible notes to ourselves: • (#1): Be conscious of imbibing's influence so that we won't be imprudent, or drunks or addicts of ANY type (Proverbs 19:17; 20:1). These conditions lead us into the temptations we pray that God will deliver us from. And while we're at it, don't find our regular pleasure or "release" in ANY mood-altering substance, including opioids, coke, weed, or prescriptive meds. • (#2): Even if indulgence is OK for us, we have to be sensitive that others may be "off ended," or taken aback, or even worse, lapse into their own addictions because we felt so comfortable in our disciplined indulgence (1 Corinthians 8:13). No need to put ourselves into bondage (especially hypocritical, judgmental bondage based on what we do out of others' sight), but we should use discretion to not hurt others or break our super valuable direct connection with God. • (#3): Don't be so quick to judge others with alternative opinions based on their convictions. **We wouldn't want them judging me for ours, would we? (Matthew 7:1) Prayer: Give us clarity of thought and keep our minds, bodies, and spirits clean for You and the work You have for us toward others. Amen. Comments are closed.
