Scripture: Before God blessed Solomon with wisdom, wealth, and power: “Solomon showed his love for the Lord by walking according to the instructions given him by his father David, except that he offered sacrifices and burned incense on the high places.” 1 Kings 3:3 (NIV) [Note the word "except" above] At the end of Solomon's reign: "As Solomon grew old, his wives turned his heart after other gods, and his heart was not fully devoted to the Lord his God, as the heart of David his father had been." "The Lord became angry with Solomon because his heart had turned away from the Lord, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice." 1 Kings 11:4,9 (NIV) Application: We miss the fact that bad habits start early. God doesn't force us to drop them. In fact, He may bless us greatly in spite of our bad habits. But there's a limit to His patience. Self-destruction can be traced to our own failure to remove those habits that threaten our relationship with God. He understands this. He also wants to help. What we can't do ourselves, God can do for us. But first, we must confess our sins and allow the mighty power of the Holy Spirit to deliver us from the habits that can lead us to self-destruction and loss of Godly fellowship. Prayer: Dear Father, we know that You have blessed us despite our doing wrong. We don't want to risk losing our rightstanding and fellowship with You. So we offer or total beings--body, mind, and soul--and everything we own to You. Change us, right now. And firmly, but compassionately, move us away from those bad things when they come back to tempt us. Amen. Comments are closed.
