Scripture:
“So they took the bull given them and prepared it. Then they called on the name of Baal from morning till noon. “Baal, answer us!” they shouted. But there was no response; no one answered. And they danced around the altar they had made...Midday passed, and they continued their frantic prophesying until the time for the evening sacrifice. But there was no response, no one answered, no one paid attention.” 1 Kings 18:26, 29 (NIV) “The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.” 1 Kings 19:11-12 (NIV) [Jesus taught] “To what can I compare this generation? They are like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling out to others: ‘We played the pipe for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not mourn.’" Matthew 11:16,17 (NIV) Application: So many people are fooled by the histrionics of a religious show that seems holy, but is empty of God's Word. God isn't conjured up with wild music or elaborate dancing or demonic thrashing. God appears in quiet, consistent tranquility. Prayer: Dear Father, we come to you in peace: listening, not shouting. Speak to us, please. Amen.
