Scripture: “For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved—even though only as one escaping through the flames.” 1 Corinthians 3:11-15 NIV Application: Our churches may be scintillating monasteries or raggedy hovels, but what counts is what the foundation is. If it is built on Jesus, then all that is constructed above it for others to see is immaterial. But that doesn’t mean that the above ground construction doesn’t matter. That superficial fluff will be burned away, whether it be made of platinum or hay. We pray for the people who came to church only because of what was built above the foundation. Prayer: Christ Jesus, we worship You regardless of the buildings, zip codes, or social connections that identify our churches. That other stuff will be burned away, and we pray that people will hold onto only You as their foundation of all worship. Amen. Comments are closed.
