Scripture: "And when he comes, he will convict the world of its sin, and of God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment..." John 16:8 (NLT) Application: Being a convict usually is associated with jail or punishment. But biblically, "conviction" denotes a close relationship with the Holy Spirit, Whom Jesus sent to the world as our Helper. When we feel conviction of sin, that's a good thing. That's a strong signal, not command, that it's time to assess "what's wrong with this picture?" and turn around. But the Holy Spirit doesn't force us to do anything. That's the beauty of God's love: He sends us messages from inside us, not impersonally written penal codes, to alert us. After that, as any Christian knows, we can go ahead and sin if we want, but there will be consequences to pay. Just like with any other "convict." Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, our Savior, we thank You for sending us the Holy Spirit to help us live righteously. Amen. Comments are closed.
