Scripture:
“Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?” Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.” Matthew 18:21-22 (NIV) “And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.”” Mark 11:25 (NIV) Application: Scripture teaches that we should forgive others. It's not only to be kind and compassionate. There's self interest involved, too. It's also to be forgiven ourselves. I don't know if the "forgive:be forgiven" ratio works on an exact 1:1 basis, but here's one way to look at it: Would you rather have God grant you forgiveness just seven times or seventy-seven times? Seventy-seven times, of course. Now, are you ready to build up your "forgiveness reserve" to seventy-seven, 7,777,777, or even more? Then you have to build up your capacity to forgive others likewise. Prayer: Dear Lord, I don't deserve even one act of forgiveness from You, but You forgive me countless times every day. Thank You. Please create in me a heart that forgives others countlessly. Amen.
