Scripture: “The Lord said to Moses, “Take all the leaders of these people, kill them and expose them in broad daylight before the Lord, so that the Lord’s fierce anger may turn away from Israel.” ... The name of the Israelite who was killed with the Midianite woman was Zimri son of Salu, the leader of a Simeonite family. And the name of the Midianite woman who was put to death was Kozbi daughter of Zur, a tribal chief of a Midianite family.” Numbers 25:4, 14-15 (NIV) Application: God's patience with us is not to be taken for granted. Like the true story of Zimri and Kozbi, who flaunted their sin in broad daylight, God could at any time expose us and punish us for the whole world to see. But He doesn't. He steadily disciplines us, usually through the conviction of the Holy Spirit. Patiently, just as a loving parent disciplines a naughty child. But His discipline grows harsher. It could end at any time. We should learn from the mistakes of others before God's patience runs out and our names are put out there in disgrace. Prayer: Thank You for giving us the Bible to learn from, dear God. We pray that we will learn and apply its teachings so that we will not sin against You. Amen.
