Scripture:
“On the day you were born your cord was not cut, nor were you washed with water to make you clean, nor were you rubbed with salt or wrapped in cloths. No one looked on you with pity or had compassion enough to do any of these things for you. Rather, you were thrown out into the open field, for on the day you were born you were despised…I bathed you with water and washed the blood from you and put ointments on you…I adorned you with jewelry: I put bracelets on your arms and a necklace around your neck…[you] took the fine jewelry I gave you, the jewelry made of my gold and silver, and you made for yourself male idols and engaged in prostitution with them…In all your detestable practices and your prostitution you did not remember the days of your youth, when you were naked and bare, kicking about in your blood…’” Ezekiel 16:4,5, 9,11, 17, 22, 63 (NIV) Application: Some of us ask God to see the world through His eyes. But are we really ready for that? Imagine His gnawing heartache when He sees His beautiful creations selling herself and himself short while sinking deeper and deeper into the brutal world of sin. God’s heart is broken beyond human comprehension. We should repent of our sin and ask God to heal us. And we should have pity on other fallen ones, especially those who reject God’s love outright. They live in perpetual misery. But in a way that only God can orchestrate, there’s still hope. He concludes the heart-wrenching story in Ezekiel with these words: “Yet I will remember the covenant I made with you in the days of your youth, and I will establish an everlasting covenant with you…[t]hen, when I make atonement for you for all you have done, you will remember and be ashamed and never again open your mouth because of your humiliation, declares the Sovereign Lord.” (Ezekiel 16:60, 63) Yes, God will restore and accept anyone who returns to Him. Happily. His heart is bigger than our sin. Prayer: Father, we’re sorry for all the wrong we’ve done. And please help those who don’t know or care how much Your heart aches because of sin. Help us, and help us help them. Amen.
