"Again the anger of the Lord burned against Israel, and he incited David against them, saying, “Go and take a census of Israel and Judah.” 2 Samuel 24:1 NIV "Satan rose up against Israel and incited David to take a census of Israel." 1 Chronicles 21:1 NIV " And God sent an angel to destroy Jerusalem. But as the angel was doing so, the Lord saw it and relented concerning the disaster and said to the angel who was destroying the people, “Enough! Withdraw your hand...” 1 Chronicles 21:15 NIV Application: David's numbering of the Israelites fueled his own prideful thinking of kingly invincibility. It came after a string of epic victories that made David King of Israel. Every sin of David, including Bathsheba and Uriah, came from his pride. The same thing applied to Job, who saw himself blameless and sought to challenge God (Job 31:35). Judas also saw his way better than the Lord Jesus Christ's Way (John 13:8). But the best message in all of this is how God forgives. He forgave quickly after David came to his senses and repented (1 Chronicles 21:15). So did Job. We don't know certainly about Judas, but his grief was so great afterward that he killed himself. It doesn't have to come to that. Reading the Bible tells us that God is a God Who is quick to forgive. Quicker than any human would forgive. That's an encouraging message for every one of us. Prayer: Whatever it is in us that causes us to rebel against You, please take it out. Make us realize that the drive to achieve is in us only because of Your grace, but it always should remain subject to You. Amen. Comments are closed.
