“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” Matthew 6:26 (NIV) “But the king [David] replied to Araunah, "No, I insist on paying you for it. I will not sacrifice to the LORD my God burnt offerings that cost me nothing." So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen and paid fifty shekels of silver for them.” 2 Samuel 24:24 (NIV) “And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.” Matthew 6:12 (NIV) “Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest.” Matthew 25:27 (NIV) “You were bought at a price; do not become slaves of human beings.” 1 Corinthians 7:23 (NIV) Application: Throughout the Bible, the concepts of value, debt, exchange, and payment are profound. We are worth much. Our forgiveness of others is worth much. What we do with what we have is worth much. God’s laws are based upon redemption: giving one thing in exchange for something else. Our sins are massive debts that will weigh us down, sinking us far, far from God. But God has freely given His Son as full payment of all debt. How much do we value this freedom, and what are we doing with it each day? Prayer: Father, please help us see the value of everything around us, and to use correctly the value that You see in us. Amen. Comments are closed.
