Scripture: "Beware of the teachers of the law. They like to walk around in flowing robes and love to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces and have the most important seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets." Luke 20:46 (NIV) "Keeping a close watch on him, they sent spies, who pretended to be sincere. They hoped to catch Jesus in something he said, so that they might hand him over to the power and authority of the governor." Luke 20:20 (NIV) "They were unable to trap him in what he had said there in public. And astonished by his answer, they became silent." Luke 20: 26 (NIV) "Some of the teachers of the law responded, “Well said, teacher!” And no one dared to ask him any more questions." Luke 2039,40 (NIV) “When you are brought before synagogues, rulers and authorities, do not worry about how you will defend yourselves or what you will say, for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say.” Luke 12: 11,12 (NIV) Application: Critics of Christians often pose questions that show that they understand the basic principles of our faith, but will only go so far as to try to trap us. Just as with the Pharisees and teachers of the law, these critics have a desire to self-promote. Self-promotion is a blinding personality defect: it sees fault with others and not within itself. Instead of straining to portray Christianity as a baseless faith, critics would do better by believing in Christ more than they believe in their own vanity. Prayer: Father, we put our faith in Your Holy Spirit will teach us what to say, or not to say, when confronted by critics. Amen. Comments are closed.
