Scripture: "But one of them, Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, said to them, “You know nothing at all, nor do you take into account that it is expedient for you that one man die for the people, and that the whole nation not perish.” Now he did not say this on his own initiative, but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus was going to die for the nation, and not for the nation only, but in order that He might also gather together into one the children of God who are scattered abroad." John 11:49-52 NASB Application: Prophecies, when true, speak not only of immediate events to come, but also greater events that will come and have a broader impact. The nearer events are almost sample foretastes of something bigger coming. Caiaphas, the Jewish High Priest at the time of Christ Jesus' crucifixion, unknowingly spoke perhaps the most impactful prophetic words for everyone at all times. Caiaphas thought that Jesus' death could save Israel, and he said it in a way that was condescending of his listeners ("you know nothing at all...") But in fact, it was Caiaphas who knew nothing of how big an impact Jesus' death would have on the whole world, and it continues throughout this day. Jesus' death saved us all, everywhere. Prayer: Christ Jesus, let the world understand the full impact of Your sacrifice. Amen. Comments are closed.
