Scripture: “When Jesus had called the Twelve together, he gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases, and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal the sick. He replied, “You give them something to eat.” They answered, “We have only five loaves of bread and two fish—unless we go and buy food for all this crowd.” “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Peter answered, “God’s Messiah.” Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. A voice came from the cloud, saying, “This is my Son, whom I have chosen; listen to him.” “Listen carefully to what I am about to tell you: The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men.”” Luke 9:1-2, 13, 20, 23, 35, 44 (NIV) Application: Over the course of three years, the Lord Jesus gave His disciples many tasks to prepare them to take over His earthly ministry after He went to heaven. He quizzed them. He warned them of hard times to come. He told them to prepare, but not over-prepare. And when they chattered off track, even His Father God intervened and announced that they should shut up and listen to Him. If we look at our own lives, we see practice areas that Jesus has given us to prepare us for advancing His ministry. Are there times when God must also tell us to shut up and listen to Jesus? Prayer: We pray Heavenly Father that we are hearing, learning, and doing the things Jesus wants us to do in life. Please continue to be patient with us as we develop. Amen. Comments are closed.
