Scripture: "So they inquired further of the Lord, “Has [Saul] come here yet?” And the Lord said, “Yes, he has hidden himself among the supplies.”” 1 Samuel 10:22 (NIV) “Saul was very angry; this refrain displeased him greatly. “They have credited David with tens of thousands,” he thought, “but me with only thousands. What more can he get but the kingdom?” The next day an evil spirit from God came forcefully on Saul...” 1 Samuel 18:8, 10 (NIV) Application: Jealousy and lack of self-confidence are two sides of the same coin. When we believe that God has blessed us with talents that are just as valuable as anyone else's, there's no need to be jealous. But if we continue to dwell on our inadequacies, we open ourselves up to evil spirits of jealously, depression, and even a self-hatred that eventually could lead to murder or suicide. Prayer: Dear Lord, we thank You for making us unique, but equal. Keep us mindful of the value You see in each of us, and help us see that same value in each other. Amen.
