Scripture:
“Then the Lord spoke to Job out of the storm. He said: ‘Who is this that obscures my plans with words without knowledge? Brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer me. Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me, if you understand’” Job 38:1-4 (NIV) Application: There’s a lot more going on than we know. We see our own lives, and most of the time, miss the patterns and details that tell us something. We fail to see the big picture in the universe. God’s bigger context. Frustrated with each thing that doesn’t turn out according to our script, we try “taking it out” on God. Be careful. Demanding God to give us answers may take us into a confrontation we can’t sustain, and certainly can’t win. We’re fortunate that God loves us and usually doesn’t slap us back into place. (Unless we are really getting out of place, that is.) He knows we are human. He owes us nothing, but if we are fortunate, He will provide us with comfort and assurance. In turn, we should remember His unmerited and be charitable to others less fortunate than us. Prayer: Dear God, please comfort me when I am troubled by the tragedies, the misfortune, and the losses I experience in life. These are my immediate circumstances, and I am merely human. Shine Your Divine light on me, bring me into realization that I am part of Your larger plan, and let that bring comfort to me and others like me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
