There's a lot of talk about freedom going on in developed countries. But if you listen carefully, most of that talk is about a selfish type of freedom to do things that oppress others who are unlike them. Is that really freedom? When you are truly free, you will look a lot like Jesus. Free to love others, to serve others, and to seek out the oppressed and set them free. That's the freedom I want. Scriptural reference: “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” John 8:36 NIV “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free,” Luke 4:18 NIV Application: Imagine the shackles that weigh you down right now are snapped. What's the first thing you will do? How will you spend your life? Can you see God as pleased by the deeds of your newly found freedom? Perhaps if you begin reshaping your idea of what freedom is so that it involves helping others become closer to God, then those shackles will rattle and fall off. Comments are closed.
