Scripture: 'There are six things the Lord hates— no, seven things he detests: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that kill the innocent, a heart that plots evil, feet that race to do wrong, a false witness who pours out lies, a person who sows discord in a family.' Proverbs 6:16-19 "I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them. For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naive." Romans 16:17-18 Application: When someone in our families sows discord through gossip or provocation, leave them to the Lord. Proverbs 6:16-19 begins with six things the Lord hates. All are detestable and most likely any discord-sower already is trapped in one of them. But to make it abundantly clear, a seventh one is added, "a person who sows discord in a family." It couldn't be clearer. So what do we do with such a person? Leave them to the Lord. Don't try and punish them. As for ourselves, we can find instruction in the New Testament. Avoid them. Prayer: Lord Jesus, no family is immune from people who sow discord. If there's anything like this in us, show us so that we can immediately apologize and repent. If we are confronted with another person who sows discord, show us how to tactfully avoid them. We pray for their souls. Amen. Comments are closed.
