Scripture: "Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own" 1 Cor. 6:19 (NIV) "Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food. All food is clean, but it is wrong for a person to eat anything that causes someone else to stumble." Romans 14:20 (NIV) "What goes into someone's mouth does not defile them, but what comes out of their mouth, that is what defiles them." Matt. 15:11 (NIV) Application: Our bodies are temples, and we should not only keep the outside clean, but also the inside…deep inside. Further, even though a very wide variety of things, including food and beverages, may be acceptable for us, we must operate out of love. We mustn’t eat or drink according to our own liberties if this will cause another to stumble. So all this means is that if, for example, we have a problem with alcohol, then we shouldn't poison our temples. And by “problem,” I am referring to both scriptural conflicts as well as physical addictions or ailments. So even if we have no problem with alcohol, but are in the company of someone who is struggling with alcoholism, we shouldn't tempt or mislead them. Jesus said it best, we have to manage the heart, deep inside, so that we preserve our inward temples and what comes out of them. Prayer: Christ Jesus, show us how to take care of our minds, bodies, and hearts. Comments are closed.
